HERITAGE RESIDENCIES
Heritage Residencies is an ongoing programme that invites heritage makers from various fields and professions to create projects and activities in collaboration with Coquitlam Heritage. The programme’s purpose is to reflect the diversity and abilities of heritage makers in our community, providing them with a platform to research, develop new work, and host workshops. Heritage makers range from but are not limited to bakers and chefs, artists, musicians, storytellers, gardeners and more.

JACKSON CHIEN | SENIOR-IN-RESIDENCE
Jackson Chien 簡志雄, born in Taoyuan Taiwan in 1951, obtained B.A. Fine Arts from National Taiwan Normal University. For more than 30 years he worked as an artist & art educator in Taiwan, immigrated to Canada in mid 2000s, and worked internationally. His watercolor work “House” won the third place in the 7th National Fine Art and collected by National Art Education Hall in 1974. “The Lane with Sunshine”, won the first place in the in the teacher’s Fine Art Exhibition of Taipei city in 1979. Printmaking work “Many Houses” won the Award of Borne medal in Japan. Chien's primary medium including oil painting, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, pottery/ceramic and porcelain. Yet his years of focused research on right-brain/spatial thinking, led him to paint in interdisciplinary context, implementing his practice in community engagement and the Eastern philosophy of life.
Chien’s residency is from November 1 - December 31, 2024.
Chien is our 2024 Intergenerational Sharing Project Senior-in-Residence. The Intergenerational Sharing Project aims to connect seniors with other generations to pass on skills and ideas they have learned throughout their lives. Seniors play a vital role in our community as knowledge keepers, and this project allows for this knowledge to be shared and preserved with the younger generation. Our Intergenerational Sharing Project is made possible by the New Horizons for Seniors Program which grants funding for projects that make a difference in the lives of seniors and their communities.
