May Book Club: The Conjure-Man Dies by Rudolph Fisher

  • Coquitlam Heritage at Mackin House 1116 Brunette Avenue Coquitlam, BC, V3K 1G2 Canada (map)

Join us this month for a discussion of the book The Conjure-Man Dies by Rudolph Fisher, commonly regarded as the first Black American mystery novel. The story tells of an African king who settles into Harlem during the 1930s and becomes a fortune teller, whose death then kicks off a complex mystery with a cast of vivid characters and highlights an often-neglected time and place in American literature.

Enjoy a discussion of the book alongside snacks and drinks in our parlour.
