MUSEUM TOURS
Looking for a group activity or a place for your next fieldtrip?
Visit Mackin House and take one of our many tour offerings to learn a new skill and get insight into local history. We currently offer Museum Tours and Walking Tours as part of our in-person experience. The tours present multiple perspectives and have something to offer for every age group. We have tours in English, French, and Mandarin available and will do our best to accommodate all abilities and learning levels.
Programs
Mackin House Tour
Enjoy a tour of Mackin House, a 1909 Edwardian-era heritage home. Learn about the history of the home, the lumber mill it was built for, and the changes the Francophone community and the lumber industry brought to the local area and culture.
You can also choose one of the heritage activities below to accompany the House Tour:

Learn about the use of light and heating during the early 1900s and make a rolled beeswax candle to take home.

Work together in groups to bake apple muffins in our old-fashioned kitchen to enjoy.

Learn about the different ways to churn cream into butter and taste the results afterwards.

Learn how to connect clues from select artifacts, handle different objects, and put together a story using the items collected.

Learn about the art and architecture of the Arts & Crafts movement and design your own printmaking foam block inspired by our heritage wallpaper.

Enjoy a tour of Mackin house followed by tea and scones in our dining room.

Walking Tours will take 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
Some uphill walking is required.
Maillardville Walking Tour
Learn about the Fraser Mills Lumber Company and the different locations, businesses, and communities that contributed to early Coquitlam as you walk through Maillardville. Walking tours can be added onto any of the House Tours listed above.
We offer two Walking Tours to choose from:

Take a walk back in time to learn about the buildings and the people who helped shape Maillardville. The tour details life between the 1900s – 1920s, taking you to different heritage buildings that still stand today and historic sites where they once were.

Spanning from the 1930s to present day, this tour chronicles the changes Maillardville underwent as the community and diversity grew in the area.
