Bonds Beyond the Art of Baking
Baking is fun, therapeutic, ignites creativity and above all strengthens the bonds between families.
Here are some benefits to baking together as a family!
There’s nothing as frustrating to an individual than not knowing about their heritage, understanding their culture, and making sense of their heritage. Passing down historical values and traditions is important to every society. The history of baking, bread especially is no exception!
Teaching the younger generations about foods of their ancestors and the techniques they utilised is an essential value to pass down to the next generation.
Today the act of baking and cooking together as a family unit is gradually getting lost because life is busier than ever.
But here’s why parents, guardians and older siblings should engage younger children in baking or cooking.
As already mentioned, it’s for educational purposes and preserving oral and tangible history. The stories of our ancestral heritage can be learned in this engaging kitchen setting. This ignites creativity, curiosity and interests for children, giving them an opportunity to ask questions and peak their critical thinking skills.
Baking can be therapeutic and fun for the most part- cleaning up (erm not as Therapeutic for me) but what better way to do it, than to do so with loved ones. “ A burden shared is a burden halved” T.A Webb
Baking together as a family
helps us relax from the busyness of life and the mundane
take time to catch up with each other's life through conversations
learn new things together about the baking techniques or about each other.
become frustrated at one another or with the recipe. This also helps understand each other’s personality or temperaments
Whatever result it turns out to be after carefully measured ingredient, the end goal is to have a great time together with a stronger bond, one baking recipe at a time.
Happy baking!
