National Day of Awareness/Action for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, GIrls, & Gender Diverse People

MMIWG2S advocates for the end of violence against Native women, girls and two-spirit peoples and seeks to draw attention to the high rates of disappearances and murders of Native people, particularly women and girls.

According to statistics reported by CBC News and the Canadian Journal of Women and the Law:

  • MMIW has been described as a Canadian national crisis and a Canadian genocide

  • There are over 1700 missing or murdered Indigenous women in Canada

  • Indigenous women are killed at six times the rate of non-Indigenous women
